About us
Since the School was established in 1872, we have been providing advanced health care services to patients and educating the next generation of health care professionals in Kyoto. Our network includes more than 900 physicians across 60 central and regional hospitals in Kansai area and hundreds of community-based primary care clinics. Since 2015, Dr. Satoaki Matoba is the 8th and current chair of the department.

OUR MISSION
We provide high-quality medical care for many patients. We conduct cutting-edge research that will improve future human health care. We train the next generation physicians and researchers in cardiovascular medicine and nephrology.
Examples of our pioneering efforts are:
- Regenerative medicine for peripheral arterial disease patients.
- Elucidation of molecular mechanisms in developing atherosclerosis, hypertension, and heart failure to identify novel therapeutic targets.
- Registry and epidemiologic study of acute coronary syndrome in Kansai area.
- Mechanism of glomerular damage and peritoneal fibrosis upon peritoneal dialysis.
- Clinical studies on atherogenesis in chronic kidney disease.
